After the first full day of our holiday we are ... tired! Our first thought was for a sleep in after our long flight but between 5.00 - 7.00am our plan was thwarted due to a very warm hotel room. With a good breakfast and trip to a real coffee shop (we did spot a Nespresso store during the day complete with George Clooney in the window) we decided to visit the Catedral Gotic (Cathedral) which is only a 5 minute stroll away.

After checking out the chapels and the courtyard - including the geese- it was time to head to mass at 12 for Easter celebrations at Esglesia del Pi (Church of the Pine Tree). We thought that the place would be full to the brim being Easter in Spain but they must have all gone last night (we missed the vigil due to falling asleep!).

Once mass was over we grabbed some lunch and hopped to it on the hop on/hop off bus (no Easter bunnies but we did BYO Easter eggs - Buenas Pascua!). The sights included a beautiful view of Barcelona from Montjuic, the Olympic facilities, the stunning MNAC (art gallery), F.C. Barcelona (we didn't see Messi), and the Gaudi apartments.

The Antoni Gaudi designed Casa Batllo was definitely today's highlight with its quirky rooms and innovative design features. With no straight lines the apartments featured clever use of space and light, it's definitely a unique building and well worth a visit. The rooftop is reminiscent of a dragon with scale like tiles and beautiful colours.

After a long day we acted on the advice of the Hotel staff, who said there is only one place in Barcelona to go for Paella, and we headed towards the port for a huge meal of paella and sangria - yum!
Dinner!
