Feliz Cumpleanos!

We spent Jo-Anne's birthday at Montserrat. See - here's the proof!

I even managed to purchase a Spanish birthday card! How? I asked some random, bit luckily, nice Spanish lady at the local department store who spoke very little English but understood Happy Birthday and she helped me choose one!

Montserrat is a stunning mountain monastery about one hour from Barcelona. To get there you first go by train and then cable car. It was a chilly day but we had a lovely time exploring the amazing basilica, the museum and the new audiovisual presentation. Montserrat has an amazing history, it was established as a Benedictine monastery in the 11th Century, almost entirely destroyed by Napoleon's troops in the early 1800's but survives today as an important cultural and religious landmark of Spain, Catalonia especially.

Unfortunately the choir was not performing as the Escolania is on holidays (second time - how unlucky!).

On our return to Barcelona we celebrated Jo-Anne's birthday with some yummy Tapas and good scotch at a local restaurant.

Birthday Dinner!

Off to Valencia tomorrow to eat Paella!
