So, today was terrible - the weather was lovely and sunny and we spent the day wandering around Monet's house and garden (complete with ducks, turkeys and chooks!) in Giverney as well as the palace and gardens of Versailles. Ordinary way to spend a Saturday.
We went on a tour where we were the only Australians in a mini-van full of Americans!!! Our guide was quite amused by this - us? Not so much. They complained before we all got in the vehicle!!
Giverney was beautiful. After a week of lovely spring weather in Paris the gardens were just starting to bloom - another few days of sunny weather and it would be simply amazing! We learnt a little about Monet along the way, he was a passionate gardener as well as a talented painter and it's easy to see how the area surrounding his home would have inspired him. Here's just a small sample of the MANY photos we took this morning...
And for those playing at home: we came across this plant - what is it?
Versailles was breath taking! With a rich (and complicated!) history but such an ornate palace and sensational gardens. You could easily spend a couple of days exploring the complex!
And now ready for bed after a LONG day and a big dinner. Night!
Tulips! Definitely tulips. Red ones. Yellow ones. Yep. I know tulips. Thanks for the Bond girls photo. Had put my big enormous double door fridge on ebay after the drought. Will keep it now. Have to get to Mass.
ReplyDeleteHave to agree with Andrew. They are definately tulips and that nondescript thing next to them is a Fritillaria commonly known as Crown Imperial or Snakes Head. They are related to the tulip and lily. Do we get points for answering these questions? Beautiful looking gardens. No wonder those guys were inspired to paint. Cheers FOA
