Mojitas in Madrid!

Ok. How many of you googled 'lavendaria'?!!! We spent a quality hour and a half there this morning, mixed with the locals and met a lovely young girl from Finland (who shared with us that she was commando as she had run out of clean clothes!!!). With our cases restocked with fresh clothes we headed off for the day.

We are becoming the queens of the hop on hop off bus system!! We completed the two routes of the Madrid City Tour with a few stops on the way.

Besides lots of palaces (which just seem to be flash buildings) we discovered that the banks in Spain own a lot of the good real estate!

This is a flash-er palace because the King lives there!

The banks don't own this one either - Catedral de Nuestra Señora de la Almudena!

Was only completed in 1992!

There was also a soccer/football match on in town tonight and the locals won, so a good night to stay away from the fountain in the centre of town where they all hooligan on!

We decided to mojita it instead!

Holy Toledo tomorrow! Early start!

  2. Think that bar we saw Col in was along the same street where the postcard shop is. Very handy to call in and buy postcards, pop the washing on in the lavenderia then hop along to the bar to write on the cards. The soccer was in town so would have to get train back out to Frankston. Exhausting!!!!!! Hope you got to Mass on time Andrew

  3. Well done on finding the laundrymat. We really struggling finding one 18 years ago! My god is 1995 18 years go! Shit I feel really old now! I remember the palace and the cathedral. Have you found the big bear and done the walking tour? It was in the lonely planet. I really liked Madrid and I enjoyed Toledo. That's where we were for shrove Tuesday.

Good idea keeping away from soccer hooligans. We came across some in Germany. They were all in the beer halls, it started getting out of hand and we all decided to get out of there. On our way out we were passed by the riot police running in - good timing!

We are enjoying your trip, hope you are as well! Thanks for sharing. Take care. Love Joel, Joel and Oscar xxxxx
