Nice: Noice, Different, Unewesual.
Nice turned on the noice weather for our last day on the Côte d'Azur where it was a lovely 21 degrees with not a cloud in the sky. After our big trip to the principality of Monaco yesterday we had a slow start with a morning stroll through the old part of Nice and coffee and pastries on the beach.
Noice spot for brekky!
The beach was quite different - not sand but big pebbles! Didn't look too comfortable but some nude sun bathers seemed to be quite content - unewesual, not something you see on public beaches in Australia.
We took the lift up the hill to the Parc du Château, a lovely park with amazing panoramic views over Nice and the surrounding area.
The views from Parc du Château.
Once we came back down to earth we wandered through the local markets full of produce, baked goods and gorgeous flowers where we purchased provisions for the next leg of our journey (Citron Madeleines - yum!) and had some lunch.
After we checked out the shops we picked up our bags and headed to the station. Next stop - Lyon!
What we've learnt so far - two weeks in:
- Trains aren't as good in France as they are in Spain.
- Fast trains are ace.
- First Class is great (even better in Spain where they serve you a meal and alcohol at no extra charge!)
- You need to book tickets on the trains you want early!
- Trains should have wi-fi.
- All hotels should have free wi-fi in their rooms for guests.
- Ibis Hotels are ordinary - don't go the cheap option, even if it is only for one night!
- It's good to talk to other Australians every so often - even Poms will suffice!
- We can't actually speak French. "Je m'appelle Collette" - not so useful.
- Coffee so far in Europe is ordinary and we haven't found a barista yet - it all comes out of a machine.
- It's not as warm as we thought it might be!
Noice day for a white wedding! Picking up on Andrews theme. The beaches amazed me. Exotic beach location, and shit beaches! Pebbles are NOT beach friendly. Make sure that you not only book the train, but in some parts you have to book a seat! One would think that booking the train was the same thing, when your in some countries you have do both! We learnt that the hard way!
ReplyDeleteYou don't want it to be too hot. I'm sure it will warm up from now - spring has sprung! Not being a coffee person, I can't offer you any advice about where you might find something of quality. One would think the Italians might be a show! Joel doesn't remember having a good coffee anywhere and he loves his coffee. The only memorable drink we have is a hot chocolate in Prague. OMG it was like thick running chocolate. We had one, loved it and then went and walked around long enough to walk it off so that we could go back and have another! Yum!
Enjoy your trip. Joel, Joel and Oscar xxxxxx
Girl Joel, on one of my trips to Italy, Prague, etc, we took photos of ourselves in every hot chocolate shop. The ensuing album was "Europe by chocolate shop." Jo-Anne and Collette could do that - oh, that's right - no photos - shows a lack of respect for the readership I reckon. I wonder why we bother. Think I'll just talk to you now 'cause Jo and Collette aren't playing. Maybe when they return from Frankston Jo could continue to administer the blog so you and I can keep talking. Back to chocolate - Our "best ever" was thick running chocolate in Milan - walked around the block to walk it off and go back - and couldn't find the shop again. It was like they just folded up the shop and disappeared through a door like in monsters inc, only to resurface in Prague just as you were happening along. Song for the day - "Wouldn't it be NICE if the world was Cadbury ... "
Delete"Je prends un verre de vin rouge et des fromages. . ." will get you a noice wine and cheese. . .
ReplyDelete"Voulez vous couchette avec ma, ce soir" will get you into trouble. . . unless, of course, you just say it to each other.
Hope that's helpful ladies. Who says my year of French at uni was a waste? Pas moi!
Je m'appelle Parky
Oh, by the way. You can actually audit comments readers-of-your-blog make BEFORE they are published.
ReplyDelete'Course it's too late now coz I've already gone and been inappropriate. . .
