Monaco - Monte Carlo!

If you say Monaco - Monte Carlo the right way it sounds really cool, as was our day in the principality. A short twenty minute train trip and more breathtaking coastal views was all it took to enter, technically, another country.

Panoramic view of Monaco from the Prince's Palace

The 'hop-on hop-off' bus struck again but this time was titled the Monaco Le Grand Tour. We spent most of our time at the top of the rock wandering the lane ways, visiting the Palace, Cathedral and Palace apartments. We thought we had better check out the Napoloeon museum as we have been bagging the poor guy out over the past week or so - but it failed to change our minds - it was a bit average.

The changing of the Palace guard!

The Saint Nicholas Catheral, Monaco. This is where Prince Rainier and Princess Grace were married and are both buried. The civil ceremony took place in the throne room at the Palace which was part of our tour of the Palace apartments.

For lunch we found a nice little French restaurant and had couscous with the Royals - oh no, sorry - I meant Royal Couscous! Yum!

On our Le Grand Tour we spotted Col's yacht! The preparations for the Monaco Grand Prix! And the Casino where it is illegal for Monagasques (people from Monaco) to gamble! We think this is linked to the fact that they don't pay any income tax and rely on all the visitors to keep their Principality ticking over.

Can you spot Col's yacht? It's the white one!

  1. Did you do a lap in the hoppy bus around the grand-prix track? Did you go around the hairpin bend? Did you go through the tunnel? Did they serve you Arnott's monte carlos? Song for the day - Theme from Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo - or Abba - "in my dreams I have to go to Las Vegas or Monaco"

  2. Andrew, I think we need to put you on a plane and send you over there to sorts these two out! You could sing the song of the day to them as they wander along and take photos of them to put on here for the rest of us. Passport valid? Surely the plate was good over Christmas! Something to think about.

Hope you girls had a flutter at the casino. It's a must do. Heading to the beach next? Gotta love pebble beaches!
