Museo Del Prado

We had lots of plans for today - we even googled paella cooking lessons! Once we arrived at the Museo Del Prado we realised that we would be there for a long while!!

The front entrance of Museo Del Prado - no other photos for today.

Museo Del Prado is the main Spanish art museum and is only a five minute stroll from our hotel. After seven hours of wandering through the rooms with our audio guides our feet had had enough and so had our brains. If you didn't know much amount the Christian story, Greek and Roman mythology and Spanish royalty - you would be stuffed! Luckily we scraped through and it made some sense to us. There were a few Rafael plus the odd El Greco and Rubens among the collection.

One of the cutest things we saw for the day was a group of 2 and 3 year olds in their uniforms (check long shorts and navy woollen coats) holding onto the coat of the little person in front of them as they walked through the galleries. They stopped in front of a large painting titled 'La Meninas' and one of their teachers asked them in Spanish who painted it. In a soft little chorus they responded "Señor de Velazquez"!!!

Our search for a final paella was futile so we are now back at our hotel having a drink!

Tomorrow - FRANCE!!!

  2. You can take the girl out of the school but you can`t take the school teacher out of the girl! Have enjoyed the informative trip around Spain and am now looking forward to our tour of France. Have a glass (or six) of French bubbles for me. Enjoy your time there from FOA.

  3. what do the French think of Maggie Thatcher? More highly than the Argentinians or the Northern Irelanders I suppose, but what do they think?
