Only Lyon!

Our first day in Lyon has been very interesting! After a bit of a sleep in and making breakfast only half an hour before cut off we had a leisurely stroll to the Place Bellacour in central Lyon where we would find the Information Centre and the hop-on hop-off bus stop. There happened to be a medieval festival on in town so we had the bonus of flag throwing, minstrels, period dress and guys threatening to chop off our heads!!!

Flag throwing men in tights!

Lyon is a very lively and interesting place with lots of history in the silk industry and beautiful buildings. The Rhone and Saone Rivers merge and create three very different parts of the town - we are staying on 'the Peninsula' which is between the two rivers.

The Rhone is a very fast mover!!

The Fourviere district is up a very big hill - we chose to travel in the bus - the other options were walk! or funicular. Besides another residential area there are Roman building remains and the Basilica (which is in much better nick!!).

The view of Lyon is amazing!

We have decide to save our Chateau visit for when we are in Paris so a day of wandering the streets tomorrow!

Collette is hoping for another visit to her new favourite shop which we discovered today! They also have macaroons! Can you believe we have been in France for many days and we haven't had a macaroon yet?!!!

And here's your bloody photo!!!

  2. Yeah! Keep those photos coming! You two are slow learners, but you're getting there! Those pastries look amazing. Definitely go back there! I thought my song for the day would be - in the jungle, the mighty jungle, the Lyon sleeps tonight!

Andrew your hot chocolate tour sounds good. You could market that! By the sound of Oscar at the moment I'd say he's working on his own hot chocolate! Great! I think I will just keep that quiet and go and hand him over to his dad! Lol.
