Last day in Como!

The umbrella sellers were out in force this morning but, as the forecast thunder storm never arrived, it turned into a lovely sunny day in Como.

Before lunch we took a trip up the hill to Brunate on the furnicular (don't just say it - you have to sing it like Jo-Anne does!). At the top we discovered a quiet oasis with magnificent views over the area and beautiful old houses. We wandered through the narrow winding streets, checked out the local church and had a lemonade before heading back down to Como.

Como from above.

The Furnicular.

A quiet afternoon with a stroll through the streets and a visit to the Duomo (I missed out on Wednesday!).

An early evening walk along the shore of the lake lead to the discovery of many beautiful old villas, some privately owned but a small number house the offices of the local government.

A small selection of the beautiful Villas along the shore of Lake Como.

I was almost attacked by a bird as I sat on the lake wall enjoying the serenity, the view of the lake and villas (and the free wifi!) when it snuck up behind me! According to the lovely locals everyone knows this particular bird - it's famous on the Internet and the king of the gardens!

Bloody bird!

Also along the shore of the lake is this monument and museum dedicated to Alessandro Volta - can you guess what he invented? The battery!

So that's our last full day in Como - one day when we win tattslotto we'll bring you all here! Tomorrow - Roma!!
